The government funded Kickstart Scheme means horseracing businesses and charities can employ young people ages 16-24 free for six months.

The funding covers 100% of the National Minimum Wage for 25 hours per week for a total of 6 months plus £1,500 per employee to support set up costs.

This will provide employers with assistance in accessing the scheme and recruiting high quality, well qualified and experienced candidates.  There is no obligation to extend the roles beyond the initial period of 6 months, but it is hoped that these opportunities will attract new to the industry across a wide range of roles.

The British Racing School will provide the necessary training with the aim to retain them within racing beyond the initial 6-month placements.

An extension to the government-funded Kickstart Scheme has been announced which means that racing’s employers are able to apply for a grant until 17 December 2021.  Individuals must commence in their roles by 31 March 2022.  Funding will be paid for six months from an individual’s start date.
