Pony Racing Day Biosecurity Update

With the well-publicised rise in Equine Influenza among the non-Thoroughbred horse population, the biosecurity measures for the Pony Club pony racing day at Chelmsford City Racecourse (27th May) have been updated.

The raceday will still go ahead at this stage, in line with other Pony Club events and horse shows. All participants are asked to be vigilant and are required to comply with the following biosecurity measures.

  • All ponies’ passports and vaccination records have been submitted through the entry system. Please bring these with you on the day
  • If you’re competing make sure you take your pony’s temperature before attending and are aware of the symptoms – more information here
  • Please do not touch ponies who have travelled from other yards
  • Please do not attend if you have been in contact with a horse who has suspected or confirmed equine influenza

As a precaution, the BHA has limited interaction between the thoroughbred racing herd and other horses and ponies. As the BRS is based in Newmarket with 70 racehorses and a BHA facility on site, this unfortunately means that our BRS ponies will not be taking part in the Chelmsford day.
