Celebrating Pride: BRS Welcomes All Members of the LGBT+ Community
Pride Month is a time to specifically celebrate diversity, inclusivity, and the vibrant LGBT+ community worldwide. As this time draws to a close for 2023, we wanted to highlight that the end of June is NOT the end for celebrating Pride and offering support from BRS.
At the British Racing School, we are delighted to join in this annual celebration, but above all we want to reaffirm our year-round commitment to providing an inclusive environment for all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity. The racing industry, as a whole, is actively taking steps to ensure any perceived barriers to entry for those in the LGBT+ communities are broken down, and we are thrilled to play a part in that ongoing process by providing training which is accessible, welcoming and safe to all who wish to be part of such an exciting sport.
Inclusion is at the core of our values, and we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to pursue their passion for horse racing without fear of discrimination or prejudice. We are dedicated to creating a diverse atmosphere where all members of the LGBT+ community, whether students, staff, or visitors, feel safe, respected, and valued.
BRS has a zero-tolerance policy for any form of discrimination or harassment based on sexual orientation, gender identity, or any other characteristic and the team and Trustees at the School continuously work to educate the staff and students on the importance of inclusivity, ensuring that everyone is treated with equal dignity and respect. We have LGBT+ representation from the board of trustees down to the students and we are proud that all these members of the BRS family feel happy, secure and welcomed.
Lee Moulson, Trustee, says “When I joined the BRS as a trustee one of the things that impressed me the most was the duty of care shown towards the young people at the school. As a member of the LGBTQ+ community, it was hearting to hear how well the students are supported by the staff at the school when coming out, transitioning, or being confused about their identity with no stigma attached. It is not easy to ‘come out’ in a work environment and the support shown by the team at the BRS is testament to the senior management team’s drive for inclusivity for all, which I am proud to be part of.”
If you visit the school, you may notice the vibrant colours of the Pride flag proudly displayed across one of the stables in the main yard. This is a visual reminder of our commitment to creating a diverse and inclusive environment for all, present all year round.
At The British Racing School, we firmly believe that embracing diversity strengthens our community, enhances our understanding of others, and drives innovation. We are committed to fostering an environment where all individuals, regardless of their sexual orientation or gender identity, can thrive and pursue their passion for horse racing.
As we are celebrating Pride, we invite everyone to join us in embracing the principles of inclusivity, respect, and equality. Together, let us champion diversity and create a world where everyone is free to be their authentic selves.
