Workplace Instructor
£17.00 per hour | Part-Time | West Midlands | 25 Hours per Week
The British Racing School is one of the leading training providers for young people seeking careers within the horseracing industry. Our experienced team delivers high-quality training at our Newmarket base before learners progress into Apprenticeships in Racehorse Care at racing yards across the UK.
We are currently seeking a motivated and experienced Workplace Instructor to join our team in the West Midlands on a part-time basis, working 25 hours per week.
In this rewarding role, you will provide ongoing training, guidance and support to apprenticeship students within their racing yards, helping them develop their practical skills and confidence throughout their apprenticeship journey.
About the Role
- Part-time position – 25 hours per week
- Flexible working hours arranged monthly between the apprentice, racing yard and Workplace Instructor
- Supporting and assessing apprentices in racing yards across the West Midlands region
- Delivering high standards of training, welfare and pastoral support
- Reporting to the Lead Workplace Instructor with feedback and data from learners
About You
To be successful in this role, you will need:
- Previous experience working within the horseracing industry
- Excellent organisational and time management skills
- The ability to work independently and manage your own schedule
- High standard of written reporting and record keeping
- A full driving licence and willingness to travel further than your allocated area
A Level 3 Diploma in Racehorse Care and a Coaching qualification are desirable. However, applicants who are willing to work towards these qualifications are encouraged to apply.

Voluntary Role
The British Racing School [BRS] provides education and training for those employed in or seeking employment in the horseracing industry, primarily young people. The Trustee Board is currently seeking to appoint an additional trustee. It is the boards policy to increase the ethnic diversity of its Trustee Board, in order that the Board better reflects the Charity’s beneficiaries and to realise the benefits that diverse leadership brings.
Operating as a charity, the BRS derives a third of its income from charitable donations (the remainder from the Department of Education and from the racing industry, through The Levy Board), and we are specifically seeking a Trustee with significant experience of marketing and fundraising at strategic and operational levels to bolster our expertise in this area and help shape the overall fundraising strategy.
A genuine interest in improving the life chances of young people through education and training is a paramount requirement. In addition, the BRS Board is looking for a Trustee who can think strategically about the BRS’ activities and employ their own insights and experience for the benefit of the Board and the management team.
The current Board will provide newly appointed Trustees with a comprehensive induction programme.
The successful candidates will demonstrate the ability to add value outside their natural areas of expertise and demonstrate motivation to effectively contribute to the BRS.
Personal qualities are important to the BRS – the successful candidate will be pragmatic and intellectually curious with sound people judgement, high emotional intelligence and strong listening skills. It is critical that the successful candidate possesses an open and collaborative style which matches the current culture and values of both the BRS and the Board.
The school reserves the right to conduct online searches of candidates to determine their suitability from a safeguarding perspective.
This is a voluntary role; reasonable travel expenses will be reimbursed. The commitment required is usually in-person attendance at 5 meetings, along with attendance at 4 online meetings per year.
