Supporting young people

Stable Start is a new community initiative supporting young people aged 16–18 as they begin apprenticeships in the horseracing industry.

Many young people relocate to this area for training, often leaving home for the first time, without family support and faced with expensive or unsuitable accommodation.

Stable Start matches these young people with local hosts who can offer:

  • A safe and welcoming home
  • A furnished room
  • Consitent guidance, encouragement and structure
  • Fair house rules and respectful boundaries

Hosts play an important role in helping young people settle into work, maintain their wellbeing and gain independence. While it is not a foster-care arrangement, hosts are a caring presence, someone who notices how they’re doing, offers reassurance and makes the transition away from home less overwhelming.

In return, hosts receive:

  • A regular rental payment
  • Full safeguarding screening and support
  • Ongoing check-ins from Stable Start staff
  • A chance to make a meaningful difference in someone’s life

Hosts must be 25+, able to provide a safe household and willing to complete safeguarding (DBS) checks.
