FLP student takes Ascot by storm on first ride

Flexible Learning Programme Finley Holloway enjoyed his first ever pony race-ride yesterday (4th April) at Ascot Racecourse – what a place to start!

Riding BRS based racing pony, The Bisky Bat, put his best foot forward and enjoyed the grandeur of the racecourse, coming home with his head in front. Finley has been a member of the FLP for almost two years now and will graduate at the end of this month. His enthusiasm and dedication has never wavered and the whole team are so proud that his hard work has paid off with his very first winner.

Whilst the nerves had been growing in the run up to the race, Finley’s training at BRS had filled him with confidence, and he credits The Bisky Bat with teaching him so much. The FLP has helped Finley in particular, as it has allowed him to learn outdoors, to discover and experience the things he wants to do. He relishes in the fitness element of the course, and is looking forward to moving into a yard, either flat or jump, to continue his passion of working with racehorses.

The Flexible Learning Programme offers a day release from school or mainstream education, for those pupils in years 10 and 11 who are looking for a different learning style. Not only has the fresh air and fitness got huge physical benefits for the students on the course, but the opportunity to learn in a different manner can not only improve their knowledge, but can also transform their performance in their mainstream education too.

As always, none of this could happen without the support and generosity of donors. The Worshipful Company of Saddlers and the Hargreaves Foundation have particularly supported the Flexible Learning Programme, and it’s a HUGE thank you from both the students themselves, and everyone at the BRS for supporting this programme.
