BASET Award Winner Thrives Down Under

Former BRS graduate, Lauren Hall, is reported to be having the time of her life as she takes advantage of the Endeavour Career Skills Award, offered to her by the British-Australia Society Education Trust (BASET).

In October, Lauren set off for Australia to spend a six month stay working for racehorse trainers and learning more about the industry down under. Having had a wonderful time with Paul Messara at Arrowfield in Scone, who gave her the opportunity to experience the Magic Millions sale as well as teaching her invaluable skills in terms of work riding, Lauren has moved this week to join the Chris Waller stable at Rosehill Racecourse, Western Sydney.

Lauren’s journey into racing began in 2016, when she attended BRS as part of the Pony Racing Academy, an access programme designed for young people without access to their own ponies. Having progressed through various courses, including the Foundation Course, and having worked exceptionally hard, Lauren was promoted to Second Head Girl at John & Thady Gosden’s Newmarket stable, at an impressively young age. Still only 23, Lauren has achieved her Level 3 Diploma in Work Based Racehorse Care & Management.

The trip to Australia for Lauren has come hot on the heels of the UK welcoming the inaugural BASET winner, Grace McBeath, from New South Wales in the summer of 2023.

The BASET Thoroughbred Endeavour Awards are hosted in partnership with Godolphin, the British Racing Schoool and Thoroughbred Industry Careers and were founded to support deserving young people from Britain and Australia who are embarking on careers in the equine and racing industries.
