AW Apprentice Hands Heels Series
Callum Hutchinson crowned the Series Winner
Callum Hutchinson, Apprentice to Andrew Balding, has been crowned champion of the Racing Excellence All-Weather Apprentice Hands and Heels Series 2020/21. The final was held at Lingfield Park on Saturday 6th March.
The final race of the series was won by fellow BRS Graduate Morgan Cole, with Callum finishing second, giving him enough points to secure the series.
Callum is coached by John Reid as part of the Jockey Coaching Programme, John said:
‘‘He will be delighted to have won this series, hopefully the first step in his future to bigger things’’
Callum graduated from the BRS Foundation course in the summer of 2018, following in his fathers footsteps; Wayne Hutchinson graduated back in 1998 and went on to be a very successful jump jockey.
On winning the Series Callum told us:
“To win the series was an achievement for me as I was only looking to get my name out there this all-weather season. After winning the first race I thought it might be a shout to try and win this and then unfortunately missing the next one at Southwell, I thought lets just get my name out is the best thing to do.
I then won on Krazy Pavings at Chelmsford, so that’s when I decided to aim for the title.
We were unlucky on London at Wolverhampton but still ran well to finish a close 4th. I had my fall a couple weeks later and tore two ligaments in my feet and ankle so I was worried I’d miss the last race. Mollie and I were joint top but thanks to the Injured Jockeys Fund they helped me get back in time to successfully win the series.’’
For winning the series Callum receives £1000 to put towards developing her race riding career and we’re sure this wont be the last we hear of him.
