My Racing Career – Jess White

Introduce yourself…
My name is Jess White, I’m 21 years old and I’m a Work Rider for Tom Dascombe.

Tell us about your education and career so far…
After completing my A-Levels I started a course at the BRS straight away. I was given the role of Head Girl in the New Barn at The BRS which was good.
From the BRS course I came straight to Manor House Stables.   I love going racing with my horses, and have just got back from Chantilly with my horse Iconic.  Travelling abroad with horses is a great part of the job, I took Great Scot to Deauville last year too.

Which BRS course did you do and when?
I completed a 14 week course from November 2016 to March 2017, which was the Level 2 Diploma in Racehorse Care.  I then went straight to Tom Dascombe’s to complete my apprenticeship.

Why did you choose the BRS?
The British Racing School was my choice because of the facilities, being in Newmarket itself, and having friends who had completed the course there and them saying how much they enjoyed it.

Did you have any racing experience prior to attending the BRS?
Before starting at the BRS I had volunteered for a short time at Paul Green’s and I thoroughly enjoyed my time there.  I didn’t do any riding there it was just mucking out and putting horses on and off the walker.

What are your plans & aspirations for the future?
I want to continue doing what I am doing for as long as I can.  I am really enjoying my job in racing.
