New course for 16-18 year olds

We’re delighted to launch a new programme for 16-18 year olds looking to turn their passion for horses into an equestrian career. The new Level 2 Qualification in Racehorse Care and Exercise is a two-year, non-residential course which will launch this September and will equip students with the skills and confidence to pursue a career in one of the most rewarding equestrian sports in the country.

Based at the world-class facilities of the British Racing School in Newmarket, Suffolk, students will attend during term time where they will gain hands on experience working with and riding the 70 racehorses that live at the school. The course will also provide students with an understanding of racehorse health and welfare, stable management and racing knowledge, preparing them for a rewarding career at a racing yard.

Andrew Braithwaite, Chief Executive of the British Racing School said, “We are excited to offer this new qualification for young people aged 16-18 who are looking to pursue a career with horses. The new course will give students the skills and experience they need to excel in the sport, whilst allowing them to continue to live at home and attend the school on a day basis. With an emphasis on practical skills and real-world application, the Level 2 course is designed to support the next generation of racing professionals and help them become a key part of this dynamic industry.”

In the first year, students will work towards their Level 1 qualification before going on to either complete their Level 2 at the school or an apprenticeship at a racing yard. The course complements other entry-level stable staff courses offered by the British Racing School, including the Foundation Course which has supported thousands of young people into the sport over the past 40 years.
