Brand new opportunity for owners and riders of former racehorses to understand their previous training.
The British Racing School, alongside Retraining of Racehorses (RoR) is gearing up for an exciting new Insight Day on the 6th October, that promises to provide a unique look into the world of Thoroughbred racing and the subsequent transition to second careers for former racehorses.
Targeted at ex-racehorse owners, this event, held in the heart of the UK’s racing hub, Newmarket, will offer attendees a fascinating behind-the-scenes look at the training and care of racehorses and the techniques used to prepare them for their racing career.
Riding a racehorse often seems to go against the grain of techniques taught in other equestrian disciplines and sometimes it can be tricky to get into the mind of an off-the-track Thoroughbred, if the rider has not previously been involved in racing. The aim of the day is to educate the new owners of former racehorses, to help enhance their retraining of these beautiful and intelligent animals.
Attendees can expect a day filled with informative demonstrations and talks from industry experts, including BRS staff and RoR representatives amongst others. The schedule includes:
💡Knowledge check – myth busting and finding out what you know already!
🚶Tour of BRS and opportunity to watch our racehorses being ridden and handled in the stable
🐴Introduction to racehorses in training and how the jockey is trained to ride
🏇How racehorses are ridden and opportunity to ride the racehorse simulator
👉Lunging & long-reining demonstration, with course interaction
🥸Introduction to racehorse tack and how this influences the horse
👣 Shoeing the Thoroughbred
❓Q & A session
🍪(and importantly, of course, there will be tea/coffee/biscuits and lunch provided!)
The British Racing School’s state-of-the-art facilities will serve as the backdrop for this event, providing a unique setting for attendees to immerse themselves in a racing environment. Although the BRS horses are no longer racing competitively, they are trained and ridden in the same way, in order to help teach the young people attending the School.
RoR is at the forefront of the effort to ensure a bright future for retired racehorses, and this Insight Day is just one example of their commitment to educating and enlightening the public about these incredible animals’ lives beyond the racetrack.
