What a Weekend!

Champions Day at Ascot
BRS Graduates dominate Championship Titles!
The 2021 flat season was concluded on Saturday, 16th October with Champions Day being hosted by Ascot Racecourse, and what a day it was.

The Champion Flat Jockey title went right to the line with fellow British Racing School graduates Oisin Murphy and William Buick starting the day with 153 vs 150 winners respectively.

But with just 1 winner on the day for William Buick it was Oisin Murphy who was crowned Champion Flat Jockey for 2021, for the 3rd consecutive year.

We should also put a mention out to the next two riders in the Championship – Tom Marquand and David Probert – who finished 3rd and 4th, who are also British Racing School graduates!

Unlike the Flat jockey Championship, the Apprentice Championship title winner has been known for a little while due to his 16 winners lead in the table but Marco Ghiani wouldn’t admit it until it was official, and on Saturday he got his crowning moment when he was presented with his trophy as the 2021 Champion Apprentice.

Marco Ghiani follows a long line of Champion Apprentice who were also British Racing School graduates:

2020 Cieren Fallon
2019 Cieren Fallon
2018 Jason Watson
2017 David Egan
2016 Josephine Gordon
2015 Tom Marquand
2014 Oisin Murphy
2013 Jason Hart

We could go on!

Congratulations to all, winners and runners up, but also a congratulations to all the teams behind the scenes who get the horses fit and ready for the races at home and get them to the races.  The 5 jockeys mentioned above had a total of 3105 rides this year between them – that requires a lot of teamwork behind the scenes, so well done and thank you.
