Double Championship Double

BRS Graduates
Double Double
There’s not much about 2020 that is the same as 2019 but The Champion Flat Jockey and the Champion Apprentice Jockey are two things that are!

And that means, we can proudly say that, once again, the 2 Champions are British Racing School graduates.

2019 & 2020 Champion Flat jockey Oisin Murphy completed our Apprenticeship programme back in 2013 whereas Champion Apprentice Cieran Fallon only graduated 4 years ago on course 305, having previously never ridden racehorses, despite being the son of a former Champion Jockey.
The fact that Cieran has been riding for just 4 years and is now double Champion Apprentice (the first to achieve this feat in 32 years) is testament to not only his talent but also his hard work.  2020 has been a great year for him having ridden his first Group 1 winner, secured a retained jockey position for Qatar Racing and also ridden out his claim.
Cieren is one person who will surely look back on 2020 with fond memories.

We’re extremely proud of both Oisin and Cieran, but we should also mention that the silver and bronze positions in the Flat Jockey Championships were also filled by our Graduates, William Buick and Tom Marquand respectively.  Whilst another graduate, Georgie Dobie finished a very creditable 3rd on the Apprentice Jockey leaderboard.

Grant Harris, BRS Chief Executive:
“All the staff at the British Racing School are immensely proud of all our graduates but Oisin and Cieren’s achievements in winning the Champion Jockey and Champion Apprentice Jockey’s titles for the second year in row is truly amazing.
The BRS trained the first three in the Champion Jockeys Championship – Oisin, William Buick and Tom Marquand.
The BRS has now trained the last seven Champion Apprentice Jockeys – Oisin, Tom Marquand, Josephine Gordon, David Egan, Jason Watson and Cieren.
This is a tremendous record and testament to the all staff at the industry’s leading training provider.”

Cieran Fallon, 2020 Champion Apprentice:
“2020 has been an unforgettable year, never thought I could top last year off but luckily I have! I will always be thankful and grateful to the British Racing School for everything they have done for me, especially getting me started in racing.”
