Just points between the top three in the run up to Haydock Park series final

This Friday, 28th September, sees the final of the Haydock Apprentice Series. With three jockeys sitting very closely going into the last race of the series. Poppy Bridgwater Apprentice to Tony Carrol leads by one point. Sitting close behind is Jamie Gormley and Ger O’Neill. Ger is Apprentice to Declan Carroll. Jamie Gormley was attached to Iain Jardines however turned full professional earlier this month so unfortunately cannot ride in this series any longer.
Alongside the Racing Excellence Series runs the Jockey Coaching Programme (JCP), all Apprentices and Conditionals are assigned to a jockey coach to help them with their race riding careers. These coaches would have helped and supported them through the Haydock Apprentice series alongside other rides.
During the series the Jockeys take part in mandatory course walks for which they gain 2 points. They also gain points for Professionalism, presentation, riding and place points. They would receive 5 points for 1st place, 3 points for 2ndplace, 2 points for 3rd place and 1 point for 4th place.
In the final only place point’s count, former Jockey George Baker will be present on the day to conduct the course walk and on hand for any support and advice.
